Lang Co Beach Travel Guide
Meta description: Discover Lang Co Beach — Vietnam's most scenic coastal lagoon between Da Nang and Hue, with the Hai Van Pass backdrop and pristine turquoise water. Guide 2025.
Why Visit Lang Co
Lang Co is a 10-km sand spit on Vietnam's central coast, 65 km north of Da Nang, that separates a vast lagoon from the South China Sea. It is one of the most visually compelling stretches of coastline in the country: the narrow strip of land with water on both sides, backed to the north by the Hai Van Pass mountains and to the south by the hills of Son Tra Peninsula, creates a landscape that travel writers have been attempting to describe adequately for decades.

The beach itself is long, clean, and largely undeveloped — a working fishing village at one end, a small cluster of resort hotels at the other, and several kilometers of relatively untouched sand between. Lang Co is where travelers passing on the train between Hue and Da Nang press their faces to the window; making it a destination rather than a view requires only a slight detour.

Top Things to Do

The idyllic Lang Co beach stretching along the coast
1. Lang Co Beach
The main beach faces the South China Sea with clean sand, minimal development, and views south toward the Hai Van Pass mountains. Swimming is safe from March to August. Tip: The northern end of the beach near the fishing village is quietest.
2. Hai Van Pass (Above Lang Co)
The 21-km Hai Van Pass road climbs over the peninsula separating Lang Co from Da Nang — one of Vietnam's most dramatic coastal mountain drives with views over both the Lang Co lagoon and Da Nang bay simultaneously. Accessible by motorbike from the village. Duration: 2–3 hours return trip.
3. Lang Co Lagoon
The vast lagoon behind the sand spit is a productive fishing environment — traversed by fishing boats at dawn and dusk, populated with cormorants and kingfishers. Kayaking and rowing trips on the lagoon are available through resort hotels. Duration: 2 hours.
4. Chan May Port Area and Snorkeling
The Chan May area south of Lang Co has accessible reef snorkeling accessible by boat. The Monkey Mountain peninsula visible from the beach has trail access. Duration: Half day.
5. Day Trip to Hue (70 km)
Lang Co's position between Da Nang and Hue makes it an ideal base for day trips to both cities. Grab taxis and rental motorbikes provide flexible access to Hue's Citadel (70 km) and Da Nang's beaches (65 km).
Local Food
Banh Canh Lang Co: A thick noodle soup with crab, shrimp, and fish in a rich broth — specific to the Lang Co area and widely considered the best version of banh canh in central Vietnam.

Fresh Seafood: The fishing village supplies langoustines, crab, mantis shrimp, and reef fish to the small restaurants along the beachfront road.

Best Time to Visit
March–August: Dry season; beach swimming optimal. July–August is hottest (35°C) but peak beach weather.
September–February: Central Vietnam rainy season; the Hai Van Pass clouds over and beach conditions become rough.
Where to Stay
Luxury: Laguna Lang Co Resort (a Banyan Tree property) is the peninsula's premier accommodation — golf course, private beach, and spa. Vedana Lagoon Resort & Spa offers a more intimate alternative on the lagoon shore.
Mid-range ($70–130): Lang Co Beach Resort and a handful of guesthouses in the village offer simpler accommodation.
How to Get There

The tranquil Lang Co lagoon with its mirror-like waters
By train: Lang Co station is on the Reunification Express line; the approach from both directions is spectacular. From Hue: 1 hour. From Da Nang: 45 minutes.
By road: On Highway 1 between Hue and Da Nang; the tunnel under the Hai Van Pass is the fastest route. Take the old Hai Van Pass road for the views.
Final Thoughts
Lang Co deserves more than a train-window glance. A night or two here, between Hue and Da Nang, breaks the central Vietnam itinerary perfectly and delivers a beach experience with both solitude and scenery.
