Quy Nhon Travel Guide

Meta description: Discover Quy Nhon — Vietnam's underrated coastal gem with deserted beaches, Cham towers, and a thriving seafood scene. Your complete guide for 2025.

Why Visit Quy Nhon

Quy Nhon is Vietnam's great undiscovered coastal city — a substantial port on the south-central coast with beaches that rival those of Da Nang and Nha Trang but receive a fraction of the visitors. The city has been largely bypassed by the resort development that transformed its neighbors, and the result is an authenticity unusual for a Vietnamese beach destination: fishing boats on working beaches, local restaurants serving the day's catch with no tourist markup, and a pace of life that has not yet been reorganized around foreign visitors.

The surrounding coast is extraordinary — the twin lagoon beaches of Ky Co and Eo Gio (Rocky Cape), the Cham towers of Banh It and Duong Long, and the offshore fishing islands of Hon Dam and Hon Kho add historical and geographic depth to what would otherwise be a very good beach holiday.

Top Things to Do

1. Ky Co Beach

A turquoise lagoon beach 25 km south of Quy Nhon, reachable by boat or road and surrounded by rocky headlands and hills. The water quality is exceptional — clear, calm, and largely unspoiled. One of Vietnam's best swimming beaches. Tip: Boats from Nhon Ly village (100,000 VND return); bring snorkeling gear.

2. Eo Gio (Rocky Cape)

A wind-carved rocky headland 20 km from Quy Nhon where the South China Sea drives waves through a narrow channel between black basalt formations. The coastal walk from the car park offers dramatic sea views. Duration: 2 hours.

3. Banh It Cham Towers

Four Cham towers on a green hilltop 20 km north of Quy Nhon — some of the best-preserved Cham architecture in Vietnam outside My Son, set in agricultural countryside without tour groups. Duration: 1 hour.

4. Quy Nhon Beach and Evening Promenade

The city beach stretches along the waterfront for 5 km, with an evening promenade popular with local families and a seafood restaurant strip running its length. Duration: Evening.

5. Lung Coc Freshwater Lake and Thi Nai Lagoon

The vast Thi Nai Lagoon — one of Southeast Asia's largest coastal lagoons — is a protected bird habitat connected to the sea by a 2.4 km bridge. Sunrise views across the lagoon are outstanding.

Local Food

Banh Xeo Tom Nhay: Sizzling rice crepes with jumping shrimp — fresh prawns that twitch when the hot oil hits them. Quy Nhon is considered the best place in Vietnam to eat them.

Bun Cha Ca: Fish noodle soup made with local mackerel and tomato — the south-central coast's answer to bun bo.

Nem Nuong Binh Dinh: Grilled pork rolls specific to Binh Dinh Province — more herbal and fragrant than Saigon versions.

Fresh Seafood: Quy Nhon's fishing fleet supplies the local market with an extraordinary variety at prices well below tourist-destination markup. Oc (snails), cua (crab), and tom (prawns) at the An Duong Vuong seafood street.

January–June: Dry season; February–April optimal. The offshore islands are accessible by boat and water clarity is best.

July–August: Hot and occasionally rough seas.

September–December: Rainy season; some beach activities disrupted.

Where to Stay

Mid-range ($50–100): Avani Quy Nhon Resort, Life Heritage Resort, and FLC Luxury Resort Quy Nhon offer the best facilities. Several boutique guesthouses near the beach from $30–60.
